RE: Schools Micromouse competition
Hi Everyone,
As I understand it, the reason for changing from the existing F2 and F3
classes is to allow radius curves instead of (or possibly as well as) right
angle bends. Otherwise using tiles is a good idea.
If the course was made by sticking paper print-out curves on the top of
square tiles, we might get some of the sdvantages of both systems. The big
advantage of the tiles is that dropping off the edge is an unambiguous
measure of being too far from the line. It also imposes size constraints.
The question is: "is there a cheap source of square tiles of the right
size?"
Regards,
Duncan

Can I once again suggest 'bilby-style' tiles?
These are just squares of coated chipboard, as used in cheap kitchen
units. Trails of them can be laid out, either as a maze, looking a bit
like a crossword puzzle, or just as a winding track. Sticky tape on the
underside can hold them together if the mice are likely to be too
ferocious in accelerating. An errant mouse just falls off the edge -
only half an inch, but enough to condemn it.
Reflective optos will easily detect the edges, provided the tiles are
laid on a dull floor. In fact any floor finish will probably do, since
the optos will be closer to the white melamine.
Have a look at www.jollies.com/bilby/bilby.htm
Cheers
John

Hi Everyone,
I had a quick look at the Singapore rules. 0.7mm thick magnetic
sheets
laminated with matt black vinyl sounds beyond the reach of many.
