Hi Has anyone used the Sharp GP2D120 sensors on a small-ish mouse? They
look good technically but they are huge (well, much bigger than I was expecting).
Also they seem to only provide updates in the order of hundreds of Hz – I
am not sure if this will be enough to steer a 2-wheeled mouse at reasonable
speed. If anyone has used them, I’d also be interested in the effect of aligning
them so the beam strikes the wall at an angle (to get greater range) –
however this could cause problems with the distance calculations. Otherwise, are there any other (smaller, cheaper?) sensors that do a
similar job? I read some of Duncan Loutit’s articles on distance sensors
and it seems they are very tricky to build. Also, are there any model suppliers that supply high-quality drivetrain
parts? Most of my previous Micromouse parts were scavenged or parts of
educational / hobby kits. I am after precision gears, axles, wheels etc and
perhaps ball bearing units. I’m sure the radio control market has plenty
of good stuff. Web links appreciated, I’m still in Thanks James. |
