Rules - My Twopen'th
Dear All
May I add my thanks to everyone involved with the organisation of the
competition; I thought it was well done with a good balance between the
'official' and the 'informal' - I too a good time.
Regarding Duncan's posting:
As the third-place competitor in question I will definitely be accused
of 'sour grapes' but, in general, I am in agreement. It is not easy to
make a Non-Contact Wall Follower that 'behaves itself impeccably' in the
maze and, perhaps, the efforts of people who achieve this on the day (it
matters not whether by luck or by judgement) should be rewarded.
Additionally, while we are thinking of rule changes, the question of
'how non-contact is non-contact' was once raised but we failed to get a
consensus; I believe that the discussion we had at the time is still on
the Mailing List - probably near the bottom!.
The idea proposed, for what it's worth, was that if the mouse 'tapped'
the wall but did not actually need manual assistance then it would incur
some form of small penalty - probably time. Has anyone any further
thoughts on this?
Regards
