Surely the big issue with these is the power supply.... I don't see them
powered by AA's, especially running at 1G.

What about the new Nano-itx board, a full 1Ghz PC on a 120mm x 120mm PCB
with standard PC interfaces on it and it is likely to be about £100.00
the only thing to sort out would be a power supply for it.
