Meeting
Firstly, I hope everyone is well. The list has been so quiet recently
that I was wondering whether there is some new and ghastly disease that
passes from mechanical rodents to humans...
We are trying to organise a Saturday/Sunday meeting in our Easter vac as
per our discussions earlier in the year. Right now we are looking at the
weekend of of 31 March 2001, although it would be possible to do the
following one (7 April) if poeple felt really strongly.
The basic outline is that we'd get together on Saturday and have a decent
meal Saturday evening in a room with a cash bar next door so that everyone
can sit around socialising until they fall over. During the day on
Saturday and Sunday we'd have a mixture of talks and tutorial sessions and
perhaps a `friendly' competition. Start and finish times to be agreed
based on people's travel needs.
Right now I need an idea of how many people might attend so that I can
reserve a block of rooms. We're trying to keep the cost at about 55 pounds
which would include the dinner, overnight accomodation, breakfast and
not-very-good lunches. We can do a cheaper rate for people that just want
feeding and have their own place to stay the night.
I can probably book some double rooms if you want to bring a partner (the
normal rooms are student study bedrooms and therefore only have one single
bed in them). Should your partner not be interested in mice, we have
Windsor and the river Thames nearby for sight seeing along with Wisley and
Saville gardens. For shopping, trains to central London take about 35
minutes. Overseas readers might like to know that we are about 15 minutes
from Heathrow airport although fortunately just off the flight path.
So, any takers?
Adrian
PS Just so there is no confusion, this weekend meeting is _in addition_ to
the main competition in June, not a replacement. It is basically just an
excuse to get together for learning and drinking purposes.
